Mahoutokoro School of Magic

Mahoutokoro (魔法所) is the wizarding school of Japan.

Mahoutokoro is located on a small, unplottable island in the Seto Inland Sea. The school campus takes up the entirety of the island, and so the island is called Mahoutokoro too.

The legally mandatory education at Mahoutokoro is roughly equivalent to muggle chūgakkō and kōtōgakkō combined. Students start at age 12, and finish after 6 years of study — first year, second year, third year, fourth year, fifth year, and sixth year. After that is about 2 to 4 optional years of vocational schooling programs, depending on the career that the student in question is pursuing.

Wizarding culture is far more traditional than muggle culture, and on school days students are required to wear kimonos, although the color and pattern is up to the student as long as it is within reason.

Mahoutokoro accepts all Japanese students, regardless of parentage. They also they accept a few Korean students each year.

During their mandatory education, students live in the school dorms. The boys' dorms are Kaze and Tsuchi, and the girls' are Ka and Mizu. Students are allowed to pick their own dorms as long as there are approximately equal numbers of people in both. If there isn't, then all new students are put into the other dorm until the numbers are even again. Students need to submit a request if they wish to switch dorms, but the requests are usually approved.
